Representative Edward Markey (D-MA) has re-introduced legislation for the 21st Century Communications & Video Accessibility Act.
This legislation is designed to expand the current rules regarding descriptive video and internet accessibility. Hopefully we'll soon be seeing non-visual access to onscreen public announcements (like school closings or storm warnings), descriptive video services available through digital and satellite TV, speech options for visual menus, and more accessible web pages on the internet.
Personally, I'd like to see descriptive video become a standard option on all DVD movies just as closed captioning is.
