Calling All Parents of Blind Kids!

Grace Tiscareno-Sato is on a mission: She wants to change the mainstream misconception that people with vision impairments can't be independent... can't just be normal people!

Grace is a get-it-done kind of person! She's come up with a brilliant idea: Collect video clips of blind kids and adults just doing normal (or even extraordinary) things. Then, once she has a substantial collection of videos and stories (which she will collect together on one YouTube channel), she plans to share these videos with media outlets like CNN or Good Morning America:

As part of my national media outreach, I'll provide the media with a list of URLs linking to content of blind kids and adults doing normal everyday things so that these images become widely seen and circulated and blindness begins to feel "normal" to the sighted instead of something to be feared or pitied.

This idea is already catching on locally: Grace has successfully run a story on her local San Francisco ABC news affiliate. You can watch the video here.

You can help by sending your videos and/or stories to Grace. Simply fill out the form she has set up on her website, tell her a bit about your child, and copy a link to a video you've posted on YouTube, Flickr, or any other video sharing site.

Here are two examples of the types of videos Grace is looking for: One of a preschooler descending an escalator and another of a toddler using her cane.
