As scientists find more and more applications for gene therapy, we'll see more and more opportunities for patients.
Right now gene therapy is still in trial phase, but every time I hear that a new gene is being tested and a new application has been found I can't help but get excited. Successful and available gene therapies to treat genetic disorders of the eye can't be too far off, can they?
The latest piece of news comes out of England. Researchers in London say they have had success in treating mice with LCA caused by a mutation in the GUCY2D gene. Just one more step down the path toward genetic therapy.
You can read more about GUCY2D here.
