Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in the US and affects as many as 1 in 10 of adults over 80 years old.
There is no cure for the disease, but researchers have many tools in their arsenal, from stem cell therapy to blocking molecular growth. Because AMD affects the retina, this research also brings hope to other patients with retinal disorders as what is discovered here could translate to other diseases.
