Getting dressed is one of those everyday skills that can feel simple until it isn’t.

For many blind and low vision children, pajamas can be surprisingly tricky. Which side is the front? Is the shirt on backward? Are the pants inside out? And for parents, bedtime can become one more routine filled with extra checking, correcting, and helping.

That’s exactly the problem Penny’s Pixies was created to solve.

Penny’s Pixies is a children’s sleepwear brand founded by Anne Ogunrinde, mom to Penelope, who was born blind. Like so many parents of blind children, Anne wanted her daughter to feel capable and confident in daily routines.

So she started with one small but powerful idea: pajamas that help children know which way is the front.

Each Penny’s Pixies pajama set includes a tactile Braille front indicator that reads “FRT,” giving blind and visually impaired children a clear way to identify the front of their pajamas by touch. It’s a simple design feature, but it can make a big difference. Instead of guessing, asking, or waiting for help, a child can check for the tactile cue and dress with more independence.

The pajamas are also made from ultra-soft bamboo fabric and are tagless and sensory-friendly, which makes them a good fit for many children, including kids with sensory sensitivities.

What I love about Penny’s Pixies is that it recognizes something many parents already know: independence is often built through small wins.

A child finding the front of their pajamas on their own is a small win. Getting dressed with less frustration is a small win. A bedtime routine that feels calmer is a small win. But all those small wins add up. They help children feel more capable, and they help families move through the day with a little more ease.

Penny’s Pixies was created with blind and visually impaired children in mind, but the idea is bigger than that. Thoughtful design helps everyone. When clothing is clearer, softer, and easier to use, all children benefit.
