Over the years, I’ve tried dozens of brands of disposable diapers. With five kids in our house, we’ve used our fair share. Through our experience, we’ve learned what makes a great diaper.

No mom or dad wants to purchase a giant pack of diapers and then learn they leak in the night. Parents also don’t want diapers that will leave rashes or marks from uncomfortable materials. It’s important to find a diaper that checks all the boxes and keeps both baby and parent happy.

This is why I was so excited to try out Dyper Bamboo diapers. This brand promises to deliver both quality and comfort. Most impressively, they’re a diaper brand committed to using zero chemicals.

Before you grab a package of Dyper Bamboo diapers for your little one, take a look at how they performed! I tested these diapers out on my newborn to see if they live up to their claims.

What We Love About Dyper Bamboo Diapers

Dyper Bamboo diapers impressed me. I loved the fact that they were made with natural materials but was worried they might be stiff and not as absorbent as others. I was wrong.

Here’s what I loved about Dyper Bamboo diapers

Dyper Bamboo Diapers
  • KIND TO BABY: Experience plant-based* disposable diapers designed for sensitive newborn, preemie, and toddler skin. Outer and inner layers are made with 100% Viscose from Bamboo for improved comfort, superior wicking, and maximum fluid retention.
  • STRETCHY, SOFT, COMFORTABLE: Remarkably soft to the touch, absorbent, and thoughtfully made with honest ingredients. They feel more like yoga-pants than conventional diapers with an almost underwear-like fit.
  • ABSORBENT, SAFE, VERSATILE: Certified to the highest OEKO-TEX consumer safety standards. Clinically tested and 5-star rated by dermatologists. Great as a cloth diaper alternative, for potty training boys & girls, nighttime protection, and swaddler time.
  • RESPONSIBLE & MADE WITH PLANT-BASED* MATERIALS: Our infant diapers are parent’s choice because they are made without chlorine, latex, alcohol, perfumes, PVC, lotions, TBT, parabens, sulphates, & phthalates. They are unprinted, unscented, hypoallergenic, and cruelty-free to protect the next generation.

Absorbent Core

This was my biggest concern when trying these diapers. I wondered if a natural diaper could really absorb as well as the other brands. The super absorbent lining did an amazing job of pulling moisture away from my baby’s skin.

The lining is made with chlorine-free pulp. This is great news for parents who have babies with sensitive skin. Your baby’s skin will stay dry and won’t get irritated from unnecessary chemicals.

I found that using these diapers for both daytime and nighttime use worked well. We never had a leaky diaper and her bottom stayed dry and rash-free. These even prevented the dreaded diaper blowouts

Wetness Indicator

Each Dyper Bamboo diaper has a yellow line that serves as a wetness indicator. When the line changes color, you know your baby is wet. Most diapers have this feature and it’s a huge help, especially to new parents.

Often the hospital or your child’s pediatrician will have you count the number of wet diapers per day for the first few weeks. A quick peek at the wetness indicator makes it easy to quickly determine if your child is wet.

The wetness indicators on these diapers were easy to read and accurate. I also felt like the line wrapped far enough around the front and back of the diaper to detect wetness anywhere.

Eco-Friendly

Dyper Bamboo diapers take environmental protection seriously. Every diaper is made using only plant-based ingredients. They also go a step further to ensure each ingredient is sustainably sourced.

Dyper uses wood pulp from responsibly managed forests. The Forest Stewardship Council has certified these diapers as a trusted brand for environmental protection. They’re also certified standard 100 compliant by OEKO TEX.

If you’d like to help reduce the number of disposable diapers in landfills, you can participate in the Redyper disposal program. There are currently 21 participating cities where Dyper will pick up your diapers from your doorstep and take them for composting. You also have the option to ship them if you live outside of those areas.

The Redyper program does cost extra, but knowing you’re keeping diapers out of landfills might be worth it. This is a perfect option for those wanting the benefits of cloth diapers with the convenience of disposable diapers.

Free From Chemicals

Our first daughter had sensitive skin and needed diapers free from chlorine bleaching. At the time, chlorine-free diapers were hard to find. Thankfully, many brands, like Dyper, are now embracing the chemical-free demands from parents.

Dyper is committed to keeping the next generation safe by eliminating all chemicals used in their diapers. You’ll find their diapers are free from perfumes, dyes, chlorine, parabens, and latex. I was thrilled to know that my baby’s skin would be safe from all irritating ingredients.

I noticed the diapers don’t have a fragrance to them like many other brands. Some diapers are so heavily perfumed, you can smell them when you open the box. These are odorless.

Snug Fit

Many of the natural diapers we’ve tried in the past were uncomfortable and stiff. They fit awkwardly on the baby and didn’t seem comfortable. These diapers fit much differently.

The material is so soft, allowing the diaper to gently hug my baby’s bottom and legs. I think this is why they don’t leak. The diaper moves with the baby and fits perfectly with the adjustable tabs.

What Dyper Bamboo Diapers Could Do Better

These diapers blew me away in performance and comfort. However, there were a few areas I felt were lacking. Here are a few suggestions I think would improve Dyper Bamboo Diapers:

Create Eco-Friendly Designs

I appreciate this brand’s commitment to being eco-friendly and chemical-free. However, I felt like the diapers were very plain and generic looking. I would love to see some designs using natural, earth-friendly dyes on the diapers.

Ditch the Composting Fee

While the idea of collecting these diapers to be composted together sounds fantastic, I don’t like that it’s an extra cost. I just wonder how many parents will actually spend the extra money in order to be more earth-friendly. With our family of 7, this is an extra expense I would likely deem unnecessary.

Lower Price

I am well aware that most natural products cost more than conventional ones. However, the price for these diapers seemed higher than most. I’d love to see a lower price point, similar to competitive brands like Honest diapers or Seventh Generation.

How Dyper Bamboo Diapers Compare to Other Diapers

Let’s take a look at how Dyper Bamboo diapers stack up when looking at top competitors:

Price

Hello Bello Premium Baby Diapers
  • HELLO BELLO PREMIUM DIAPERS: Doody-catchers; Crap-sacks; Tinkle-poopers; Whatever you want to call them, our plant-based, super soft and absorbant disposable diapers are a modern convenience you don’t want to live without
  • SAY HELLO TO ADORABLE DESIGNS: And say goodbye to plain diapers; Our delightful designs are curated for boy, girl and gender neutral assortments for every parent’s need; Go ahead, take your pick!
  • HOW TO USE: The optimal containment of numbers 1 and 2 is dependent on the quality of diaper and your booty-wrapping skills; Plus, these leak protection and soft diapers make your job more fun!
  • MADE WITHOUT: Our diapers are made without chlorine processing, artificial fragrance, phthalates, parabens, latex, and lotion; Basically, it’s made with the good stuff!

I compared these brands to several others that feature natural materials and no chemicals. Sadly, Dyper Bamboo diapers were more than double the price of other fan-favorites in the chemical-free diaper world. Hello Bello was one of these brands that had Dyper’s price beat by a landslide.

Ratings

I was pleased to see that the ratings were superb for Dyper Bamboo diapers. Parents loved the absorbency and quality of the diapers. With almost a 5-star rating, these diapers were just as loved as the majority of their competitors.

Softness

In my opinion, these diapers beat Seventh Generation diapers when it comes to softness. They don’t feel stiff and are gentle on the skin. If you like the texture of Honest diapers, you’ll like these, as they feel similar.

Chemicals

Many parents want to avoid harmful irritants like chlorine bleaching, perfumes, lotions, and parabens. Dyper is a clear winner in this category, but I was curious as to how they compared to other brands.

Here’s what I found:

Dyper Bamboo Diapers: The Bottom Line

After trying out these diapers for a few weeks, I’ve found them to perform just as well as other natural diapers. They definitely aren’t the cutest diapers on the market, and they are more expensive than others. However, for a truly chemical-free diaper that doesn’t leak, these are a great choice.

I can see parents splurging on Dyper Bamboo diapers if their child has extra sensitive skin. The fact that these diapers don’t even use dyes sets them apart from others. They are also a great choice for environmentally conscious parents who are willing to spend extra to do their part.

As an overnight diaper, we had no issues with leaks. We also never had a diaper blowout during the day, which is a huge win. These diapers are able to handle the task and are more absorbent than expected.

I appreciate how thoughtful this company is with its ingredients and sourcing. These are excellent diapers for sensitive skin since they are free from all the major irritants. Dyper is also transparent in where the ingredients come from.

Overall, though I love the performance of these diapers, they are too expensive to justify for my household. However, if you have a baby with extremely sensitive skin, they are absolutely worth a try. Sometimes the price doesn’t matter when it comes to the comfort and well-being of your baby.

FAQs

How do I know which size Dyper Bamboo diapers I should buy?

This chart may be helpful with choosing the right size. Many parents noted that they needed to size up earlier rather than later. Waiting too long to switch to the next size resulted in leaks.

Newborn Up to 10 lbs
Size 18-14 lbs
Size 212-18 lbs
Size 316-28 lbs
Size 422-37 lbs
Size 527+ lbs
Size 635+ lbs
Size 741+ lbs

Are Dyper Bamboo diapers organic?

These disposable diapers are not labeled as organic. However, the Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX certification tests for over 300 harmful substances. Parents can rest easy knowing Dyper is Standard 100 certified and free of any of those substances.

Where are Dyper Bamboo diapers made?

The diapers are designed in the US by a small business. They are manufactured in China.

What if Dyper Bamboo diapers don’t work for me?

The only way to truly know how a diaper will work for your baby is to buy a pack and test it out. That can be a gamble if the company doesn’t have a satisfaction guaranteed policy.

Unfortunately, it seems that Dyper will only issue refunds if the item is in an unused, resaleable condition. So if you try a diaper and it doesn’t work, you cannot return the rest of the package.
